Pride of the Olympians

As many of you know, I know and work with Olympic Athletes that recently competed in China.  I want to express my pride and gratitude for having the ability to work with such world-class athletes.  I know that only 3 people in the world get acknowledged on the medal stand at the Olympics and there are so many other committed athletes just seconds or inches behind the coveted three medalists that are are NOT mentioned.

I want everyone to know just how challenging it is to be an Olympic Athlete, regardless of their sport.  They train for four years virutally everyday (mentally or physically) and they have to show up on the world stage at “the Games,” (in some sports), for a mere set of seconds/minutes to make it happen.  Talking about pressure….wow!

Imagine that you are in sales and you get that “one big” presentation opportunity ONLY once every four years?  The results affect your schedule, your life plan, your financial situation, your relationships, your family, etc.

I am proud to even be affiliated with my athlete friends as I know their sports are amazing.  No, to little, compensation to chase the dream of being the BEST in the world at their sport………awesome…………..and an inspiration to me.  Thank you all for your committment and representation of our country.

5 Weeks

Mr. Rhett is now 5 weeks and 2 days and is doing very well.  It so amazing to watch babies go through their transformation especially when they are so young.  It is truly a miracle to think how Rhett will go from 7.7 lbs at birth to an up-standing adult one day.  Rhett’s mere presence has motivated me in ways that I never imagined–truly a God-send for sure!

Feel free to email me directly if you want to be added to my picture distribution list of “parenting pictures” or check out my FaceBook page as well.

 Proudly,

MJL

Olympic Athlete Update

The Olympics are upon us here in August and as many of you know, I have to come to know and work with some of the track and field athletes this past four years leading up to Beijing.

Here is a link to an article that was recently published in Northern California about some of our friend competitors as they prepare to compete this next week.  The athletes mentioned in this article train near my hometown of Modesto, CA and I have grown to know them and their families over the years.  This is a great piece that talks about the support the spouses provide to their Olympic families.

Suzy Powell-Roos is a long-time friend of mine from high school days in Modesto, CA.  She will be competing in the preliminary rounds of the Women’s Discus this Friday, August 15th at 8am ET (US Time) if you care to tune in or go to www.nbcolympics.com for a live stream via the Internet.

Amy Acuff will be competing on August 20th in the Women’s High Jump.

The athletes appreciate all of the support and I have talked with Suzy from China this week—she relayed how safe they felt over there and that all things seem to be going well in her preparation for Friday.

Tune in if you can or watch out for some of our friends this week.

Mr. Rhett Update

Well, Rhett is already 17 days young and its hard to believe that the last two weeks has buzzed by so quickly.  Mom is doing well in her recovery and Rhett is literally growing by the day–the doctor’s are saying growth is about an ounce per day in these initial phases of growth…wow!

It was nice to take two full weeks off from work.  One of my favorite things to do was to have Rhett sleep on my chest in the middle of the mornings when he napped.  Just feeling the weight of his little body against mine and knowing he is so peaceful.  He is opening his eyes alot and is very alert these days so its nice to just be able to look into his pretty blue eyes.  So far, he is a very mellow and even tempered baby–sleeps very well and only cries when he needs something from us….keeping the fingers crossed that he stays this way.  Stay tuned!

One Week Down

Well, Mr. Rhett M. Lindstrom officially turned one-week young this morning (Friday, August 1st).  He is doing awesome and mom is improving by the day.  Rhett has been an absolute joy to be around this past week.  Both Monica and I were totally off from work so we slept alot, napped some more and hung out with the little man as much as we could when he was actually awake.

Research shows that the average newborn in their first month is only awake and “active” about 5-7 minutes per hour on a 24-hour schedule.  That equates to about 2.25 hours of actual awake time per day so we really do pour the love on heavy when he is awake and active.

Looks like he will have a full head of hair, assuming he follows the typical male hair gene which is the mother’s father.  So unlike dad, the bald one, he will have some hair.  People say Rhett has my smile and dimples, has mom’s skin tone and facial features so we are excited to see how he actually matures into a young man one day.

Stay tuned as we will post some of his pictures on the BLOG this next week.

 Proud Father,

Mike

Rhett Michael Lindstrom Has Arrived

Rhett was born yesterday (Friday, July 25th ) at 7:55am in Scottsdale, AZ.  He was officially 7.7 lbs and 19.5″ and was in great shape upon delivery.  Monica is doing well and recovering as I type this post.  It was such an amazing experience for both of us and our families.  It was just like everyone always tells you…..”the moment can’t be put into words!”

We are spending this next week with family and friends as we acclimate in our home to having Rhett there with us and our dog, Toby.  We are excited to be at home and develop a consistent schedule together as neither of us has had that AT ALL the past 2 years with me on the road so much and Monica juggling multiple projects while maintaining a full -time legal practice at her firm.

I will be writing more and posting some pictures so stay tuned.  Someone asked me what I have enjoyed thus far being a father and its simple: to hold my son, stare into his face and just shed a tear of gratitude for all that represents.  Thanks so much for all of the love and support the past several months.  We look forward to sharing Rhett with all of you.

July Baby Update

Little Rhett has yet to arrive for those that have been inquiring.  I will be sending out an email announcement once he his born.  Great news is that mom is doing well and is VERY ready to “not be pregnant” anymore–a common sentiment of mom’s out there when they hit that 8th and final month.

We had our last ultrasound this past week and Rhett is “big for his age,” as the doctor put it.  He is weighing in at approximately 6.5 lbs and he is only in his 36th week.

I am officially on travel lock-down until the end of August and it is so nice to actually stay in one time zone, sleep in my own bed, work-out in my own gym, and live a some-what normal routine schedule for once in 10 years.  I am still consulting clients over the phone and also maintaining my coaching roster of 30 clients while on this travel hiatus.

Stay tuned for more updates and pictures too, when the little man finally arrives.

Keep Believing!

US Olympic Track and Field Trials

As many of you already know, the 2008 Olympics are quickly approaching in early August.  Before the Opening Ceremony, an action packed and intense process must happen first: comprising the Official US Team.  I work with these athletes one-on-one and let me share with you–I have so much respect for their dedication and hard work.  They train for four years straight, hold down jobs to take of their bills, provide for their families and still must perform at a world-class level when these Trials come around every four years.

For those that like to watch these kind of events, starting this coming Friday (June 27th) in Eugene, OR, the track and field team will be made.  I will be traveling up there to watch and work with some of my clients/friends as they compete to earn that coveted honor of making the team that will travel to Beijing in AUG.  Please tune in as the events will be televised throughout the week-long competition.

Some of the athletes to watch out for this next week:

Sprinter Tyson Gay looks strong going into next week.  Shot Putter Adam Nelson is always fun to watch–mentally strong and a fierce competitor.  Allyson Felix is has to the favorite in the 100M sprint.  Discus Thrower Suzy Powell-Roos is the one to beat–she currently holds the American Record and is the best thrower in the US.  Amy Acuff in the high jump looks strong.

It will be an exciting time next week and my hat goes off to all of the athletes competing in the next week.

Update

I wanted to share a quick update on the pregnancy.  Monica is now at 33 weeks and Baby Rhett is moving around quite a bit.  It is so fun to watch him twirling around in there like a gymnast.  Monica is feeling well overall.  She is experiencing the obvious discomfort of having a 4 lb. baby in her tummy, and she is handling it all VERY well.  For all the fathers out there, I know you can relate when I write that pregnancy gives you an entirely new respect for your wife.

Baby is still due the first week of August and both Monica and I have a gut feeling that Rhett may want to show up a little early so we’ll see.  Thanks so much for the nice emails and postings–it means alot to both of us.  More updates and pictures will be forthcoming as time gets closer.

With Gratitude,

Mike

Baby Rhett

I wanted to let everyone know that Monica and I have settled on the name of our son-to-be (due the first week of August).  His name will be Rhett Lindstrom!  We are still unsettled on the middle name and we are discussing alot still.

I know many of you have asked me the name since my last blog entry about the baby.  So it’s now official, Rhett Lindstrom.

Also, some of you have emailed me about our baby registry.  We are currently registered at Babies R Us under the names Michael and Monica Lindstrom.

Thanks so much for all the love and support the past several weeks.  We both really appreciate it alot!

Mike
